Review: Shearwater Perdix 2 Wrist Dive Computer vs. Teric Watch Dive Computer

Hi my name is Justin (52 years and +- 250 dives ) and I am an open water 1 and 2 recreational diver (nitrox certified) on single tanks and on occasions using double twinsets. I love the ocean and enjoy long dives from shallow to a bit deeper. I love photography and video creation and sometimes I just stare at the sea life for up to 120 minutes fining around  is my thing. I recently needed to purchase a new dive computer as my current Suunto Zoop was a good start, but I needed much more real time visual rich data on the fly. The Dive Action Shearwater demo center gave me two dive computers to test out  and I am so grateful and here is my honest feedback. I used these dive computers without the Swift transmitter.

Review: Shearwater Perdix 2 Wrist Dive Computer vs. Teric Watch Dive Computer

Shearwater Perdix 2 Wrist Dive Computer:

The Perdix 2 wrist dive computer is a stellar companion for underwater adventures. Its outstanding visual display caters to those with aging eyes, offering easy navigation both above and below water. The push buttons are glove-friendly, making it a practical choice for divers in thick gloves.

The device is robust, surviving knocks without a scratch. Its clear display provides essential data, including tissues, degrees, and other crucial information. Noteworthy features include excellent depth warnings, descent rates, and a safety stop system that outshines competitors.

The Perdix 2’s strap is strong and adjustable, allowing underwater adjustments or swapping hands if needed. The device performs well in various lighting conditions, thanks to visible highlights and a vibrant display. The vibrating warnings for ascent, descent, and depth add an extra layer of safety.

Gas mix options, multiple dive modes, and a comprehensive CNS exposure measurement make it a versatile and reliable dive computer. The ability to analyse dives on a smartphone and customize displayed information enhances its user-friendly design. The inclusion of a POWERFUL LARGE DISPLAY compass adds an EXCELLENT practical touch for navigation underwater. Love the compass – mark a bearing and you can’t get lost – green is your adventure direction – red is the return and I kept it on 180 view of field. Magnetic true North was my setting.

There is also a way to change gas mixes while diving. A bit complex for me. I should level up on that one.

However, the Perdix 2 has its tiny drawbacks, such as the need for frequent battery replacements +-28 dives per battery and the absence of audible warnings if you use alkaline batteries. A warning vibrate system does come into effect when you use Lithium AA Batteries. Despite these minor issues, it proves to be an extremely reliable companion for diving and tech 40 enthusiasts and beyond!

Shearwater Teric Watch Dive Computer: Scuba and Freedive multipurpose!

The Teric Watch Dive Computer from Shearwater seamlessly blends into the wearer’s lifestyle beyond diving. Its design, complete with colour straps, makes it a fashionable accessory suitable for everyday use. The auto-rotating dials ensure that information is legible in any lighting condition or angle.  I found the love of having a watch again and I can save minutes in my daily tasks.

Secure, powerful, and adaptable, the Teric boasts an extra strap for use with thick wetsuits. The watch features different light modes and customizable colours and information, adding a personal touch to the diving experience. It supports various diving modes, including OC Rec, OC Tec (Trimix Enabled), CC/BO (Fixed PPO2), and even freediving.

Love the compass – mark a bearing and you can’t get lost – green is your adventure direction – red is the return and I kept it on 180 view of field. Magnetic true North was my setting.

The Teric excels in its practical features, including a rechargeable charger, clear alarms, and vibrate warnings for depth and ascent/descent rates. The NDL countdown is prominently displayed, and the gas mix options are easily navigable through the menu. The watch also offers cloud connectivity for in-depth dive analysis via a smartphone.

However, the Teric has a smaller visual icon display that may be less suitable for those with aging eyes. Users must exercise caution when adjusting settings (scuba to free dive etc as an example) in different dive modes to avoid unintentional data tissue loss of previous dives. Despite these minor concerns, the Teric Watch Dive Computer impresses with its reliability and versatility. Sadly I did not get a chance to do much freediving with it as my ears can’t handle fast freediving up and downs on the eardums.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, both the Shearwater Perdix 2 Wrist Dive Computer and the Teric Watch Dive Computer are EXCELLENT choices, with each catering to different preferences and lifestyles. The Perdix 2 excels in readability and advanced features going into the tech world, while the Teric offers versatility and style with a firm set of amazing features beyond the underwater realm and freediving. Absolutely love both dive computers and am still not sure which one to purchase.:)
